2025 Year of the Yin Wood Snake
Overview of the Year & 2025 Feng shui

Energetic of the Snake:

This 2025 year of the yin wood Snake is the 42nd year of the 60 year cycle. In classical Chinese metaphysics, the year 2025 is ruled by Yin Wood (乙) sitting atop the Snake (巳), which belongs to the Fire element. This combination creates a dynamic interplay of growth (Wood) and transformation (Fire). Ancient Chinese texts often associate such years with intellectual refinement, hidden wisdom, transformation, and slow but inevitable progress.

The snake is a more earthy version of the dragon (2024 was a dragon year). It traverses underground and above ground similar to the dragon, but it is much more of the worldly life. It is incorporating the great power of the dragon into nuance. Into existence in our everyday lives. Bringing transformation (shedding the skin). Bringing patience and acumen, as well as the possibility of danger (if we don’t treat our journey with respect).

2024 & 2023 were about...

2024 brought a powerful energetic impulse wave that moved us faster through our personal process and had the energy to manifest that process out into the world. We were being asked to take the healing lessons we had learned in 2023 and apply them outwardly to the world around us. Our focus should be on the Earth. The dragon year was one of shadow work. The dragon goes to the depths of the ocean and to the limits of the sky. This work happened for many in this past year. Great highs and great lows. Also an inner work prompt like a ladle scooping down into our deep fears and perceived inadequacies and bringing them to the surface for us to confront our own dragons.

2023 asked us to get raw and real about some of the struggles in our lives. It asked us to attend to our trauma and vulnerabilities. It asked us to attend to our family systems and our close community while also finding community out in the world. To tap into the shared fate we have with all those around us.

2025 is about...

2025’s Yin Wood Snake energy calls for strategic patience, adaptability, and self-cultivation. By aligning with its natural rhythm—through mindful action, balance, and wisdom—you can make the most of its transformative power.

Jueyin Guest Heaven, Shaoyang guest Earth. Metal musical note. Cycles: Autumn will be delayed. Fire energy (energy of life) expanded. Growth and transformation expanded and combine; wood cannot be controlled. Everything will flourish. Fire energies lead to energy rising and acute dryness conditions. Coughing, impaired urination/bowel movements. Depression and upsurging energies with cough and asthma. Sneezing, cough, nasal discharge and nosebleed.
Yi Si specifically – weak metal and jueyin wood as guest heaven…lungs will be attacked by vicious energy. Fire has the ability to grow widespread. Lots of wood. Dryness.

How the year's energy affects our bodies...

• Balance Liver & Heart Energy – The Yin Wood element relates to the Liver, while the Snake’s Fire influences the Heart. Avoid excessive stress, alcohol, and overthinking, as these can create imbalances.
• Mindful Eating & Digestion – Prioritize fiber-rich greens, lean proteins, and herbal teas to keep the stomach healthy.
• Gentle Movement Practices – Tai Chi, Qi Gong, or yoga will help regulate Wood and Fire energy, improving circulation and emotional stability.
• Watch for Nervous System Strain – The Snake is associated with hidden tensions, so meditation, journaling, and deep breathing will be essential to avoid mental fatigue. Is your nervous system in protective or connective mode? Balance fire and excess wood energy by keeping in connective mode.

FENG SHUI
year of the yin wood snake

Fengshui for this overall year:

Fengshui cures are to be placed on the Solar New Year, February 4th (but can be done anytime of the year; it's never too late!). The actual Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year) was January 29th this 2025 year. Each year there are 4-5 auspicious directions, and 4-5 inauspicious directions (the Center is counted as a direction in the Chinese system).

It is notable in the Flying Star feng shui system that overall the energy has shifted 20 year cycles into period 9.
The energy has been in period 8 for the last 20 years, and is switching to the #9 fire star beginning in 2024 for the next 20 years, until 2043. Some stars will be different in period 9 than they were the last 20 years, in period 8.

With period 9, the essence of energy is fire. Fire is love, joy, spirituality, connection, creativity and unity. It can also be unstable, aggressive and cause instability.  The way you live into and experience this is up to you, the environment, and life's path.

Fire is also fast, so it is possible that things may speed up (when they've already been feeling so fast!). This can look like change, transformation and creativity.  A key to riding the wave for these next 20 years is to embrace change, creativity and transformation and roll with it! This would be aligned with the overall fire energy of period 9. Some businesses may thrive in this world and be supported by it, especially the creative arts, the electronics world, spirituality and love focused industries. On the other side (and very sadly), political conflict, war and volatility can also be fueled by fire. It is of utmost important to focus on grounding, love and connectivity to balance out the negatives of this energy. The creative arts and spiritual work, both in-person and electronically, are a perfect tool to bring to light the imbalances of wars and negative politics and bring unity and love to light. The fire energy greatly supports that- so the qi would be in your sails (as we say) for creating change and transformation that way.

The 9 period also supports women, and there is a lot of positive energy for the next 20 years for women to be in positions of leadership and power.

Here are the directions for this year:

Auspicious 2025 directions:  #1 Victory Star in the Southeast, #4 Academic/Romance Star in the West, #6 Heavenly Star in the South, #8 Wealth Star in the Southwest, #9 Prosperity Star in the East, #2 Health Star in the Center. Hang out and active them the most!

Inauspicious 2025 directions:
#3 Conflict Star in the Northwest, #5 Misfortune Star in the Northeast, #7 Betrayal/Robbery/Karma Star in the North. Try to avoid renovation work in these areas and keep them quiet.

Grand Duke/Tai Sui is in the Southeast, Three Killings is in the South, and Sui Po (Year Breaker) is in the Northwest for 2025.

*Below are specifics for each direction, cures and enhancers as well as general lifestyle advice for each section. Often people don't have all the specific fengshui cures- one option is to buy them. Another is to get these fengshui cards from a woman we like on Etsy- they are just cards you place in each direction for the 2025 year (large cards that stay put for the whole year, and smaller ones that get moved every month). The link for that is here:

2025 Fengshui Cards

Picture
SOUTHEAST
#1 Life Path Water Star, representing success, wealth, career, luck, life path and good reputation.
Favorable if your office or front door are in this position.  If activated correctly, this can bring success in one's finances and career. The inherent energy of the southeast is the wood element, which can weaken the metal energy of the #1 star, and we will need to enhance this area with metal and water during 2025 to ensure that career and finance prospects are as auspicious as possible.

 Enhancers:
Water and metal to increase wealth and prosperity. You can also use green plants, candles and the colors red and pink for growth and abundance. Chinese coins with red string to enhance the annual #1 star

Picture

CENTER

This year, the #2 Illness/Wellness Star visits the Center.  This is an illness star, but it is shifting some. It was related to illness and injury for decades, but now is acquiring healing gifts, so it is in the process over the next few years of changing from inauspicious to auspicious in this period 9 (read above over description about this overall 20 year change from period 8 to period 9). This star has become auspicious, and will enhance health, relationships, luck and wealth when activated correctly.

Enhancers:
Earth and metal supports the healing of this star and area.
If you support this area right, it will bring about changes of self-empowerment and healing. If not, it may rest back where it has been with illness. Make sure not to introduce fire yet because it brings too much energy as this star is changing. Can also use some metal.
Earth: Colors yellow, orange and tan. Pottery, stones.
Metal: stones, color white.

Picture
NORTHWEST

The #3 Quarrelsome Wood/Annual Robbery Star visits the Northwest this year. It can relate to intelligence and promotion but also arguments. This star brings with it the vibrations of arguments, theft, hot tempers, loss of wealth, legal problems, stress, fights, misunderstandings and lawsuits (not something any of us enjoy!).

Cures:
Weaken with fire to drain the wood element of the #3 star. A bagua cure (without a mirror) will help deflect negative impacts. Stones and crystals are also helpful. Saging the northwest of the home and office is important to cleanse the area, as well as use essential oils or rose water spray. Candles are also helpful as the fire element. Red dragon protection buddha, protection talisman (esp. if red).

Picture

WEST

The West is an inauspicious energy this year because of the Yin House Star, with the #4 Wood Star of Romance and Knowledge.
The Yin House Star can bring negativity, emotional instability, and feelings of stagnation.

Cures:
Fire and earth. Red candles, stones, pottery, red buddha.

Picture
NORTHEAST

The  #5 Misfortune Earth Star will bring negative luck and vibrations to families; it is the most dangerous area of your home and property this year.  This star is in charge of misfortune, accidents, loss, disputes, injury. It is best to keep this area quiet and not do renovations in this sector of the house. That will minimize the negative affects this energy has on your life! Focus on metal and water elements for cures; avoid earth colors such as browns and yellows as well as avoid candles and red colors in this area.

Cures:
Saltwater cure, anti-misfortune symbol (like a pagoda), metal chimes, Buddha statue, singing bowl, even metal pots and pans! OM AH HUM chant. Metal is good in this area, as are colors of white, gray and blue good. Pi xue statues (2 winged Chinese mythical creatures) or a copper bell will help drive out the negative influences. Wind Chimes.

It is best to avoid this area this year, but if you need to be in it, here are some things to help suppress the unfavorable effects (which tend to range from loss of money, fatal illness,  major accidents, big disruption of business plans, etc.). Classic fengshui cures are a salt water cure and a bagua with a mirror as well as metal objects. If your front or back door is in the NE, place a 6 rod metal wind chime to weaken the #5 star. If your kitchen is in the NE, place white towels or white decorations by your stove. If your bedroom is in the NE, use a brass Wu Luo gourd. A Tsai Shen Yeh (God of wealth) statue in gold will also help reduce the bad earth and protect your wealth.

Avoid: Renovation work in this area and keep it quiet as well as sedentary activity for over 2 hours. Remove fire elements (red colors, candles, etc.) as well as earth.
Use a five prong metal wind chime to dissipate the effects.

Picture
 SOUTH

The South is an Auspicious direction this year with the #6 Business and Good Luck Energy Metal Star visiting.
This star is beneficial for success and promotions. It represents a kind of authority based on hard work and perseverance.  This is a great area for work success, but if your bedroom is located in this direction, the negative aspects of the energy such as loneliness, sadness, and sudden changes may affect you (blue bedsheets will help!).

Enhancers:
Metal and Earth: yellow pillows, clay vase and pottery, 6 Chinese coins, crystals, Fu dogs, prosperity Buddha.

Picture
NORTH

The North is an inauspicious energy this year, hosting the powerful #7 yin metal star of conflict, stress and loss.
Do not disturb this area and keep it quiet. Wood and water cures will help negate these inauspicious energies.

Cures:
Water element: black and blue colors, obsidian stone, water or pictures of water.
Wood: plants, green color
Rice cure: you can put some rice in a small ceramic bowl and put a note inside saying "to purify and settle." On top of the rice can be a gold coin and on top of that a stone like jasper crystal. This safeguards the home and people.

Protection amulet.

Picture
SOUTHWEST

The Southwest hosts the #8 earth wealth and prosperity star this year. This has been the most auspicious star for a long time, but its ability to provide ongoing security is fading. Yang Earth helps activate support this star may still have to offer. This star will also take over some of the energy the #4 star has help in terms of enhancing relationships with friends and others, as well as enhancing love life. It is said this star will activate Peach Blossom luck in romantic, friendship and professional relationships!

Enhancers:

Fire & earth enhancers.
Yang Earth: colors yellow, orange and tan. Stones and pottery- things from the earth. Art of fields and mountains.
Selentine pagoda. Stone windchimes.
Money tree, selenite stone, crystals and quartz, love emblems (like a pair of ducks or hearts). Romance enhancers.
Prosperity buddha & protection amulet.
Fire: colors red and pink, candles

Picture
EAST

The East is an auspicious energy this year, hosting the powerful #9 star of magnifying prosperity for 2025. Beginning this year, the #9 star is the primary wealth, recognition and fame star for the next 20 years. If you sleep or sit in this area, you will reap extra benefits from this magnification energy. It is known to bring prestige, promotions, and overall good news. This is a prosperous energy of the year! The #9 star is also a fire element star, and is indicated for great wealth and luck. This year, because there is also the Three Killings energy in this area,  we need to treat this area carefully.

Enhancers:

Fire and wood elements and colors. It is ideal to be South facing and have a mountain view (for those  that lucky:)
Fire: colors orange, red, and pink, stones, candles, strong lights
Wood: color green, plants and flowers, wood furniture or decorations

Fire element cures such as candles, Himalayan salt lamps, fiery colors (red, purple, orange, magenta and yellow), images of fire will help help enhance the #9 star. A strong light source in the southwest is also a very good activation.  Red dragon statue.

Three Killings:
A yearly energy that represents loss, legal problems and general troubles. To neutralize this energy you can put the 3 celestial guardians or Pi Yao (Chinese mythical winged creatures in a pair).
