Art Therapy & Sandplay Therapy
"Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain." C.G. Jung Art Therapy
Art therapy supports and encourages self-exploration through creative expression. When we connect with our non-verbal creative self, we give voice to that which may have no words or can be difficult to verbalize. The creative self is a rich and vast resource which we all possess and can easily access. Art therapy can provide an avenue toward emotional and spiritual well-being by helping us to know ourselves more deeply and understand our complex inner workings from that non-verbal perspective. And, prior art experience is not necessary to benefit from art therapy! Anyone can access the non-verbal voice that resides within and art therapy offers a powerful, non-threatening way to explore and communicate those deepest parts of ourselves. Sandplay therapy is a nonverbal, therapeutic intervention that uses a sand tray, toy figures, and sometimes water, to create scenes of miniature worlds that reflect a person’s inner thoughts, feelings, struggles, and concerns. It is a modality that can be utilized with children, adolescents, and adults and can be especially helpful for those individuals who have suffered trauma and may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally. Janet uses this form of therapy on it's own or along with art therapy. Both Sandplay therapy and art therapy give the individual an opportunity to create a tangible image of his/her inner world. Janet then helps guide the individual through reflection and verbal processing to understand the connection between the world they have created in sand or art making and their own inner world. Sessions are private and individual and last about 75 minutes. Basic art supplies are included, and there is no previous art experience needed. Just bring yourself! If you book online and don't see a time available that suits your schedule, please email Janet at [email protected] to schedule. She is also able to do Art Therapy over our HIPPA safe telehealth, so you can do it from the comfort of your own home! Just email her as well to set that up if you are interested. Art therapy is a wonderful modality for children to adults. Ages 4 and up is recommended. |
